Ingredients

3 ripe avocados 1 lime juice 1 tomato (diced) 1/2 onion (finely chopped) 1 jalapeño pepper (finely chopped) 2 tbsp fresh cilantro (chopped) 1 garlic clove (minced) Salt, pepper

The Story

Guacamole is an ancient recipe dating back to the Aztec Empire. Known in Nahuatl as "ahuacamolli" (avocado sauce), avocado was considered a sacred fruit by the Aztecs. Today it is one of the world's most popular dips.

Instructions

  1. Halve avocados, remove pits; scoop out flesh.
  2. Mash roughly with a fork (keep it chunky, not smooth).
  3. Add lime juice, salt and garlic.
  4. Fold in tomato, onion, jalapeño and cilantro.
  5. Taste and adjust salt and lime as needed.
  6. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.
