Ingredients

500 g lamb or chicken (cubed) 3 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp lemon juice 2 garlic cloves (minced) 1 tsp oregano 1 tsp chilli flakes Salt, pepper Pita bread, tzatziki, tomato, onion

The Story

Souvlaki is a grilling tradition dating back to ancient Greece. "Souvla" means skewer. Eaten on the streets of Athens for millennia, it is Greece's most popular street food.

Instructions

  1. Marinate meat in olive oil, lemon, garlic, oregano and spices (at least 2 hours).
  2. Thread onto skewers.
  3. Grill 3-4 min per side.
  4. Spread tzatziki on pita bread.
  5. Slide meat off skewers onto pita, add tomato and onion.
  6. Wrap and serve.
