500 g lamb or chicken (cubed)
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 garlic cloves (minced)
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp chilli flakes
Salt, pepper
Pita bread, tzatziki, tomato, onion
The Story
Souvlaki is a grilling tradition dating back to ancient Greece. "Souvla" means skewer. Eaten on the streets of Athens for millennia, it is Greece's most popular street food.
Instructions
- Marinate meat in olive oil, lemon, garlic, oregano and spices (at least 2 hours).
- Thread onto skewers.
- Grill 3-4 min per side.
- Spread tzatziki on pita bread.
- Slide meat off skewers onto pita, add tomato and onion.
- Wrap and serve.
